Mom caught hurting daughter on viral video won't be charged for child abuse

Charges will not be filed against a mother caught hurting her daughter in Kawit, Cavite, according to a report by Maki Pulido on Balitanghali on Monday.

The mother was instead given another chance to improve her parenting skills.

Investigation conducted by the Municipal Social Welfare Development in Kawit showed that this was the first time it happened.

MSWD head Yolanda Labo talked separately to the victim, the mother, neighbors, and the barangay captain, and they concluded that filing charges against the mother may cause more harm than good.

The mother, a sampaguita vendor, is a single mom and is the sole breadwinner trying to raise her four kids.

Sending the mother to jail would not be beneficial for the family.

The MSWD and the local government will instead closely monitor the family and make sure the child is able to go to school.

According to the mother, she lost her cool after her daughter disobeyed her order not to leave the house.

Someone filmed her hurting her daughter and the video became viral on social media. —KG, GMA News
